Newyddion o Mynwent Tudclud Sant – News from St. Tudclud’s Churchyard – By Pam
Going Wild at St. Tudclud’s – Mynd i’r gwyllt am Tudclud Sant
The observant among you and those with an interest in the natural world may have noticed some changes around St. Tudclud’s Church. The Car Park in particular, has had some subtle reworking over the last year or so. A small flower bed has been developed containing plants to attract butterflies and bees and the compost area has an added log pile and an extra compost bin. The secrets of the compost bin have developed without human interference – perfect!
More recently with the blessing of the local community council a section of the cemetery has been left uncut as this fits in with their plans for the environment, and a plant list of the area as been compiled.
There is a further plan for this area too, which we hope will benefit wildlife and also our community in Penmachno.
This includes:
A) sowing and planting more native plants to add to the flowering plants, shrubs and trees. This will produce a varied habitat for birds bees butterflies and moths. It will be an attractive place full of colour, scent and wildlife in the community. This area will be scythed in autumn when seed heads are ripe.
B) We hope to provide a seating area in the cemetery on the area of hard standing behind the ‘Creation Window’ This is a lovely sunny spot in the middle of the new wildflower area. It is surrounded by a low stone wall and our plan is to add some slate benches on log rolls. This peaceful spot would be for the church and community to use, for peaceful activities or simply for an escape from our hectic lifestyle.
C) After discussion, it was felt that the wild area would make a lovely spot for the internment of ashes of loved ones – by request. This part of the plan is being developed and will be subject to a Faculty Permission. More details will be provided once complete.
To enable all of this to be accessible, it is proposed to provide a winding slate chip path from the main church path through to the seating area. Pam has the list of all the plants and will be offering guided tours in the near future.

“We believe in inclusive Church – a church which celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate. We will continue to challenge the church where it continues to discriminate against people on grounds of disability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality. We believe in a Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.”
