Prayers from the Bench of Welsh Bishops
Pray for Israel and Gaza
Gweddïo dros Israel a Gaza

“They shall grow not old” we say each remembrance time though, I imagine, those killed in wars and their families who are left to grieve their death would have delighted in their growing old alongside those of us fortunate not to be amongst the dead. Perhaps at the time it was felt more of a burden to be left with the agony – growing old with the memories of conflict. For war is the ultimate failure of humanity to see each other as equally human, yet, the sun shines on us all without prejudice. Good bad indifferent. Trees grow their leaves which fade in time, wither and fall. It ought to be so with us, yet we, humans, are unable to allow this. It seems many feel we must kill. In the Holy Land and other sacred places, (for all the earth belongs to God) violence remains. We that are left growing old are left to weep at the futility of yet another slaughter. If our only hope is in the everlasting life and we are but passing through this mortal realm, then we might say hurry it on. But I’d rather delight in what is possible if we can see clearly without the lens of hatred, suspicion or envy. I see before me, in each leafs golden cast, the light which brightens the sky of an evening and a morning and the songs of the birds which ripple around us and of the beauty of another’s face when they smile and play and laugh. Such things must be held on to tightly, for without them we too would fall.

We believe in inclusive Church – a church which celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate. We will continue to challenge the church where it continues to discriminate against people on grounds of disability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality. We believe in a Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.”
