Dydd Sul 23ain Mis Mehefin – Sunday 23rd June

Alban Hefin – Midsummer – Noswyl Genedigaeth Ioan y Bedyddiwr – Eve of the birth of John the Baptist.

Jeremy McWilliam on Baptism: Awakening…

Twelve men in a boat at sea, where a storm blows up. Howling wind, waves start breaking over the gunnels. Fear, anxiety, panic starts to overwhelm. A thirteenth man calmly asleep on the stern! Jesus, supposedly the son of God, creator of the Universe, in the flesh. Can he make a difference, can he rescue the situation, can he calm the storm? They wake him up to see.  He stands, calms the waves, rebukes the wind, peace is restored. 1985 in the Red Sea on a boat, internal storms and strife pummelled my soul. A friend encouraged me to awaken Jesus in my heart. With few other options I humbled myself and asked him to take charge of my messy life. He calmed the storm and restored the peace. I wanted to show some commitment and gratitude for this amazing grace. It took the form of what is commonly called a believer’s baptism or total immersion. So much mess needed to be washed away and a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit to guide me. Another boat in Conwy, a team of volunteers, worked together for three years. For some, the work and worship caused an awaken of Christian faith. They began to see Jesus in the boat.  A new vibrancy, a spiritual excitement started creeping into their daily lives. Jesus was awaking up in their spirit, soul and heart. In response to this awakening some desired a fresh start, todemonstrate their love for Jesus. Full immersion baptism, a washing away, a celebration and an infilling of the Holy Spirit was their hearts desire. First the awakening, then the love, then the public marriage (baptism), then the joy and peace beyond understanding, then the new walk of faith each day. So Capelgors mountain pool has strangely and amazingly become a baptism pool.

We believe in inclusive Church – a church which celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate. We will continue to challenge the church where it continues to discriminate against people on grounds of disability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality. We believe in a Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.”
