Vespers: The Advent Antiphons – Veni Emmanuel. The Great ‘O’ antiphons are well known from the hymn O Come, Emmanuel. There are actually Eight, counting down the last week of Advent until Christmas. All but one (the last) refer to names for Jesus. The last refers to Mary – O Virgo Virginem – O Virgin of Virgins and was commonly used in the Sarum Rite. Here they are in word and images.
